Let's Talk

The O’Halloran & O’Brien Group of Companies always aims to lead by example within the construction industry. Managing our energy & environmental impact is at the core of every action taken within the group.

ConcreteZero

O'Halloran & O'Brien joins #ConcreteZero, committing to buy and use 30% low emission concrete by 2025 and 50% by 2030, setting a clear pathway to using 100% net zero concrete by 2050.

It joins a growing group of over 30 members that are creating a market for net zero concrete. By joining ConcreteZero OHOB is signalling to concrete producers, investors and policy makers that there's a strong demand for sustainable concrete products.

As the demand for housing and infrastructure is to set to grow over the next 40 years, it’s critical that we get the concrete industry on track to net zero now.

Use of HVO Fuel for Plant

  • HVO fuel (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil Fuel) - manufactured using vegetable oils & animal fats – 100% biodegradable.
  • HVO was successfully trialled on a number of sites in late 2021 – target 50% HVO fuel used by 28/02/2022.

When compared to diesel, HVO fuel has shown reductions in carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particular matter.

Use of Efficient Plant

  • Manufacturers continually advancing the efficiency of plant – B&T Plant Hire ensures their fleet contains the latest and most efficient plant.
  • Hitachi ZX250LC-7 excavators were recently purchased to replace the fleet of Hitachi ZX250LC-6 excavators.

Advancements between models result in noticeably lower fuel consumption figures – As shown below the latest model uses just 91% of the fuel required by the older model on average

Use of 3D GPS Enable Excavators

  • All new excavators added to fleet will have 3D GPS capabilities allowing excavation parameters to be accurately programmed remotely by site engineer.
  • Removes need to engineer to travel and eliminates excess material being excavated and taken off site.

Kobelco SK210H

The newly adopted swing electric motor provides operability unique to a hybrid machine.

The large generator motor driven by the large-capacity lithium-ion battery constantly assists the engine, greatly reducing the engine load.

The new hybrid system effectively supports fuel efficiency and power for swing, digging, and traveling, thus realising a workload which far exceeds that of conventional machines.
