Let's Talk

OHOB recently supported a new initiative to create employment opportunities for unemployed Londoners.

The project, funded and supported by The Mayor of London’s Construction Academy (MCA), is being delivered with Transport for London (TfL) and The Skills Centre at Elephant & Castle.

The group completed numerous accredited training courses including Awareness in Construction Health & Safety Award, CSCS Health & Safety Test, Manual Handling, Abrasive Wheels and Cable Avoidance training. They also experienced some real construction work in ‘have a go areas’ including drainage, concrete slabs and erecting and striking formwork.

Padraig Cosgrove, Labour Manager for OHOB, commented, “This is an excellent opportunity for young people to sample some real hands-on construction related work experience. We have been seeking to develop some pre-employment training and this course is perfect”.

Tracy Botley, Group Training Manager, added, “It is refreshing to see so many youngsters looking for a career in the construction industry. This scheme has the potential of showcasing our sector to a wider audience than we would otherwise appeal to! It’s great to see the Mayor recognising the construction sector and helping to combat the skills shortages to enable us to build the homes needed in the future”.
