O’Halloran & O’Brien were appointed by Ballymore to deliver the groundworks, infrastructure and reinforced concrete frame package for Wardian London, a landmark twin-tower residential development in Canary Wharf.

The project required precise coordination and delivery within a constrained city-centre location, combining complex structural engineering with innovative temporary works and public protection measures.

In 2023, Wardian London received the Silver Award for Best Luxury Development at the What House? Awards - recognising the scheme’s biophilic design and its achievement in introducing nature into a dense urban environment.

Scope of Works:

  • Groundworks and Infrastructure – excavation, pile caps, ground beams, slabs and placement of pods
  • Reinforced Concrete Frames – verticals, slabs and stair cores
  • Drainage and Section 278 Works – deep drainage installation and road formation
  • Temporary Works and Public Protection – safeguarding neighbouring roads and properties

Special:

Inspired by Dr Nathaniel Bagshaw Ward, creator of the Wardian Case - used to transport plants around the world during the British Empire - Wardian London harmonises contemporary design with the natural world. More than 100 exotic plant species were sourced from across the globe, creating a living botanical landscape that changes with the seasons and brings nature into the heart of Canary Wharf.
